Haridwar<\/strong><\/span>: Haridwar Police continues its crackdown against cyber criminals and online financial fraudsters. Acting on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Navneet Singh, a joint team of Kotwali Shyampur Police and the Haridwar CIU has arrested an accused allegedly linked to the Rishikesh network of the \u2018Magadh Cyber Gang\u2019. According to police, the accused used to provide fake bank accounts, commonly known as mule accounts, to the gang for routing money obtained through cyber fraud.
\nAccording to the police, a team was constituted under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Devendra Singh Tomar to trace Sagar Pandey, who was wanted in connection with Case No. 100\/2026 registered at Kotwali Shyampur. Based on the accused\u2019s digital footprints and technical surveillance, the Haridwar CIU traced his location to the Chandreshwar Road-Maya Kund area of Rishikesh.
\nAfter confirming the location, the police team cordoned off the area and arrested Sagar Pandey while he was travelling on a black-coloured scooter.
\nDuring interrogation, police reportedly gathered crucial information about the cyber network. According to police, Sagar Pandey, originally from Sikandarpur village in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, had been residing in the Maya Kund area of Rishikesh. He was allegedly in direct contact with Krishna Pandey, the previously arrested kingpin of the \u2018Magadh Cyber Gang\u2019.
\nPolice allege that Sagar used to lure local people with promises of money and get bank accounts opened in their names. These accounts were subsequently handed over to gang members for receiving and routing money obtained through cyber fraud.
\nAccording to police, the accused admitted to providing a total of 18 bank accounts belonging to individuals identified as Vishal and Shyam to the gang. In return, he allegedly received a substantial commission.
\nPolice further stated that after learning about the arrest of several members of the gang, Sagar became apprehensive about being caught. He allegedly deleted WhatsApp chats, call records and the mobile numbers of his associates from his phone in an attempt to destroy evidence and prevent investigators from establishing his links with the gang.
\nHowever, during the technical investigation, police recovered a photograph of a bank account registered in the name of Vishal from the gallery of the accused\u2019s mobile phone. The photograph has been preserved as important digital evidence, according to police.
\nHaridwar Police said that strict legal action against individuals involved in cyber crimes and online financial fraud will continue on the basis of digital and technical evidence.<\/p>\n
