Celebratory Firing at Walima Ceremony Proves Costly, Licensed Pistol Seized; People Obtaining Arms Licenses for Status Rather Than Self-Defense

HARIDWAR BHAGWAN PUR /young man faced serious consequences after allegedly opening celebratory fire with a licensed pistol during a Walima ceremony held in Bhagwanpur. Taking the matter seriously, the Haridwar Police registered a case against the accused, seized and sealed the pistol, and initiated proceedings for cancellation of the arms license.
According to information, on May 11, 2026, during a Walima function organized at Prince Hotel in Bhagwanpur, Nadeem, son of Haji Momeen and a resident of Shahpur, allegedly fired shots in the air using his licensed pistol. After receiving information from people present at the ceremony, Chetak Police reached the spot and began an investigation.
During the investigation, police examined video footage in which the accused was clearly seen firing in a public place. It was also confirmed that the pistol used in the firing was a licensed weapon registered in the name of the accused. Police stated that such firing in a public place is a clear violation of the law.
Bhagwanpur Police have registered a case against the accused and seized and sealed the licensed pistol. Proceedings for cancellation of the arms license and other legal action have also been initiated.
Police officials clearly stated that licensed weapons are meant for self-defense, not for showmanship and display of power. Strict action will continue against those who endanger public safety by firing in public places.
