Haridwar; Court Delivers Stern Verdict
Haridwar: In a case involving the rape of a minor, the Special POCSO Court has convicted the accused and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court has also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the convict. The verdict is being viewed as a strong message against sexual offences committed against minors.
According to the police, a case concerning the rape of a minor was registered at Nagar Kotwali, Haridwar, on January 16, 2026. Following the registration of the case, police arrested the accused, Suraj Prakash, a resident of Pokhariyal, Ghatiyali, Pauri Garhwal, and currently residing in Bharat Mata Puram Colony, Bhupatwala, Haridwar.
Considering the seriousness of the case, the police completed the investigation after collecting relevant evidence. The evidence was gathered under the supervision of Woman Sub-Inspector Nisha Singh, and a chargesheet was filed before the court on March 2, 2026.
After hearing the evidence and witnesses presented by the prosecution, the Special POCSO Court found the accused guilty. On September 9, 2026, the court pronounced its verdict, sentencing the convict to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. In addition, a fine of ₹50,000 was imposed on him.

The verdict once again underlines the strict legal provisions against sexual offences committed against minors. The conviction following police investigation, collection of evidence and effective prosecution is being considered an important step toward ensuring justice for the victim.
