Haridwar: The committee headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai submitted the draft of the Uniform Civil Code to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at 11 am today. The government had constituted a five-member committee for UCC on 27 May 2022. Now the government will approve it in the cabinet meeting to be held tomorrow.
*After the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC), polygamy will be banned and polygamy will be completely banned.
*The legal age of marriage for girls can be fixed at 21 years.
*It will be mandatory for people living in live-in relationships to provide their information and people living in such relationships will have to provide information to their parents.
*Police registration will be necessary for those in live-in relationships.

Every marriage will be registered in the respective village or town and without registration the marriage will be considered invalid.

*In the event of the death of the husband, if the wife remarries, the compensation received will be shared with her parents.
*If the wife dies and her parents do not get any support, the responsibility of taking care of them will be on the husband.
*The process of guardianship for orphan children will be simplified.
*In cases of dispute between husband and wife, the custody of children can be given to their grandparents.
*Provisions may be introduced for population control, including setting limits on the number of children.
*The entire draft may focus on women-centric provisions. Tribal people are likely to get exemption from UCC.
