What is Tour of Duty? which is going to start soon in Indian Army. If you are young, you must understand

The process of reinstatement of soldiers in the armed forces is about to start in a new way. It has been named ‘Tour of Duty’. It will be launched soon with the intention of providing employment to the youth in a low budget.

Preparations for this have been going on for almost two years. Under this campaign, officers and soldiers are to be reinstated in the armed forces on a fixed short-term contract at low government expenditure. Under this, the working time can be about three years. The recruitment of soldiers in the armed forces has been drastically cut in the last two years due to the Corona pandemic. As per official records, there are currently 1,25,364 vacancies in the Army, Air Force and Navy.
The proposal is expected to get a green signal from the top leadership. Briefing on ‘Tour of Duty’ has been given at the Ministry of Defense this week. This plan was brought in by Army Chief General MM Naravane in 2020. Its size and scope have been discussed at the top levels of government in recent months.

The final contours of this plan have not been revealed yet. Its purpose was the reinstatement of soldiers for both general and special duties for a fixed period of three years. This is expected to change the concept of permanent recruitment in the armed forces. If a large number of soldiers are taken under ‘Tour of Duty’ then thousands of crores can be saved in salary, allowances and pension. The best of the recruited youth may get an opportunity to continue their service when in place. The objective of this campaign is to reduce the cost of the government as well as provide employment to thousands of trained youth every year. Students from prestigious colleges like IITs who can contribute to the expansion of the high technology drive in the Armed Forces may be encouraged to serve for a shorter tenure. After which those citizens can make a career in the world.
