THE POLICE TODAY/NEWS

Uttarakhand/Nainital: The High Court, while hearing the contempt petition filed against non-compliance of the earlier order, has issued contempt notices to the District Magistrates of Nainital and Haridwar and asked them to submit their reply within four weeks. The case was heard in a single bench of Justice Pankaj Purohit.
It was said that many bridges were washed away in the floods last year. The main reason for floods in populated areas is the negligence of the government. The government did not remove the silt, boulders and debris deposited at the mouths of the rivers. It was said in the contempt petition that the government did not follow the High Court’s order of 14 February 2023. Due to which a flood like situation arose in the state and the government suffered a loss of Rs 1,000 crore. The High Court had said in its order
That the state government, along with the concerned departments, should remove silt, debris and boulders from the rivers and channelize them so that the water in the rivers flows in the rainy season.
Can flow without interruption. But till now the government has not followed the court order, even though the rainy season will start after a few months. The present District Magistrates of Nainital and Haridwar have been made parties in the contempt petition.
